Gardening Workshops at Alemany Farm

Dear Farm Friends:

Wow. If we do say so ourselves, Alemany Farm is looking amazing these days. The squash are booming, the potatoes have never been so strong, the new round of beets has come up, and we have a strong fruit set on the apple and plum trees. We had our first cucumber harvest last week — the first time we’ve ever had cukes in May!

If you want to learn how you can have your backyard garden looking as flush, please sign up for one of our upcoming Garden Workshops. These afternoon-long classes will provide you with the basic information on how to have a bountiful organic fruit and vegetable garden at your home. Here’s what we have scheduled for the next few months:

Saturday, JUNE 29 —
BUILDING SOILS: Making Compost & Managing Fertility, with Jason Mark. 1:30 to 4 PM.

Saturday, JULY 29 —
IRRIGATION for Fruits & Vegetables: From Greenhouse to Orchard, with John Stokes. 1:30 to 4 PM.

Saturday, AUGUST 3 —
GO NATIVE: Landscaping with California Native Plants, with Vicki Wilderman and Jim Cartan. 1:30 to 4 PM.

Each of these classes has a suggested donation of $20. No one is turned away for lack of funds. You can bring a cash or check to the class or, even better, pay in advance here. Please put the workshop date in the “Honor of” field. You can RSVP for any of these classes by emailing community.gardeners@gmail.com.

If you can’t make it to one of the workshops, no worries! Here are our upcoming community workdays:

Saturday, June 8, Noon to 5 PM
Monday, June 10, 1 PM to 5 PM
Sunday, June 16, Noon to 5 PM
Monday, June 17, 1 PM to 5 PM

We look forward to seeing you in the garden soon. Thanks, as always, for your work to make SF more food secure.
